# Mercedes-AMG showroom, London

Supply and fit of black matt Muraspec wallcoverings through one of the newest Mercedes showrooms in London, finished with brushed stainless-steel trims at the doors and skirtings.

**Year**
: 2019

In September 2019 we supplied and fitted black matt Muraspec wallcoverings at one of the newest Mercedes showrooms in London, the AMG showroom photographed here. Black matt is the least forgiving finish there is: it shows every joint, every mark and every uneven wall under showroom lighting.

## At a glance

- **Where:** a Mercedes-AMG showroom in London
- **When:** September 2019
- **Scope:** supply and installation of black matt wallcoverings
- **Wallcovering:** Muraspec, black matt
- **Detail:** brushed stainless-steel trims around the doors and above the skirtings

## Black matt

On a dark matt finish the joints are invisible only if the walls beneath are flat and the edges are cut clean, so the preparation decides the result. Hands, paste and tools are kept off the face of the material, because a mark on black matt cannot be wiped away.

## The trims

Around each door and above each skirting a narrow brushed stainless-steel trim finishes the edge of the wallcovering. The wallcovering is cut to meet the trim on one continuous line, so the steel reads as a deliberate frame rather than a cover strip.

Our own photographs, first posted on our Instagram, [@mrwallcover](https://www.instagram.com/mrwallcover/), in September 2019 and May 2021: the finished showroom first, then the door and skirting details, and a collage from the works. The scope is recorded in our posts of 7 September 2019 ([B2HM9AWlG3w](https://www.instagram.com/p/B2HM9AWlG3w/)) and 13 September 2019 ([B2V9cZklfv9](https://www.instagram.com/p/B2V9cZklfv9/)).

How the commission ran

## The same standards, on every commission.

Whether the client is a hotel group, a designer or a household, the job runs the same way. These are the parts a photograph never shows.

01

### Survey and scope, room by room

We measure the wall that will actually be hung, allow for the repeat and the wastage, and write a scope of works room by room before anyone orders paper.

02

### Preparation decides the finish

Walls are filled, made good and primed until they are true. If a wall is not ready for the material specified, we say so before the last drop is ordered.

03

### Protection and containment

Floors, furniture and finished joinery are protected as part of the hang. Work is contained and the place is left tidy each evening. In a home we are visitors; in a hotel we work around the house.

04

### Batch and shade control

Deliveries are checked against the measure, and batches and shading are managed so that a corridor of rooms reads as one surface.

05

### Set out from the room's focal points

Pattern is set out from chimneypieces, doorcases and bed walls, so the design meets the cornice and the joinery with composure.

06

### One team, then the return visit

The people who start are the people who finish. Four to six weeks after completion we come back to look at every seam and edge, and the workmanship is guaranteed for twelve months.
